3. 테슬라에 배터리를 공급하고 있는 업체 중 하나인 CATL 에서는 중국 내 배터리 셀 재활용을 위해서 50억 달러 규모의 시설 투자를 할 예정입니다.

 

Tesla battery supplier Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) has announced that it has plans to build a $5 billion cell recycling facility in Hubei, China.

Battery suppliers across the world are becoming busier than ever as more automakers begin transitioning to electrification. While battery capacity is growing due to suppliers opening more plants and coordinating more partnerships with car companies, the need for batteries continues to grow with each passing day. While CATL already has plans to expand its battery capacity in China to supplement Tesla’s growing sales, it is now looking to enter battery recycling ventures, which will only help supplement the company’s need to supply its clients with a sufficient number of cells.

The substantial amount of savings that would result from Tesla’s use of structural battery packs was highlighted recently at the company’s “Country Fair” in Gigafactory Berlin. As shared by some of the event’s attendees, Tesla featured some exhibits in its factory tour which showed the Model Y’s seats being directly mounted on the vehicle’s structural battery pack. 

Tesla featured two Model Y seats in its exhibit, one without cushions and another being finished. Both seats were directly placed on a battery pack. Tesla investor Adam Berg noted that he was able to speak with some of the company’s high voltage and process engineers, and he was reportedly informed that final production Model Y from Giga Berlin would indeed be mounted on the vehicle’s structural battery.
